CHARLOTTE – In a world where people seem to be hurting in so many different ways, people often wonder, “What can I do to help?”  This is the exact question that the wonderful group that calls themselves G.O.D.ly Women answered.  They came together and asked what they could do to help, and the answer came to them quickly.  They simply used the knowledge and skills each one brought to the group – Baking and Crafting!

Their inspiration comes from the Story of the Good Samaritan, who got off his donkey to help a fellow traveler (Luke 10:25-37).  GET OFF YOUR DONKEY is about serving and how the Good Samaritan got down off his donkey to assist a traveler that had been robbed of his clothes, was beaten, and was left half dead.  When the Good Samaritan came across the man, he took pity, GOT OFF his DONKEY, and took him to the inn to care for him.  This is the lesson that inspired the women within this group to work to benefit others.  “Our mission is to make a difference in a hurting world,” said Lana Cobb, G.O.D.ly Women’s spokeswoman.

It is so easy for us to get wrapped up in our day-to-day lives, but special women like these are looking for more.  As a group, they searched for ways that they could help others in this hurting world.  They came together as a group, and by using their individual talents, they formed a group that does just that. They “GET OFF their DONKEY” and help our wonderful community in the best way they know how.

All year long this amazing group of ladies join together and create beautiful handmade crafts and gift items.  These are used in their yearly bazaar, which is their main fundraiser.  Profits from this bazaar go to PAT’S PLACE (an organization that helps sexually abused children), pillows for BREAST CANCER survivors and CHILDREN IN NEED.  Throughout the year, the G.O.D.ly Women support Pat’s Place in various ways: a yearly tradition of school supplies for children, backpacks to put supplies in, and individually packaged food items for the children.  The ladies also make soft fleece blankets to be provided to the children.  These blankets offer a sense of comfort, warmth, and belonging to those who need them most.

Along with supporting PAT’S PLACE, the G.O.D.ly Women also provide women who have recently undergone a mastectomy at NOVANT with specially made pillows.  These pillows are created with elegant, high-quality fabrics that have been donated to the group and include a special caring note to lift up hearts that might be heavy at this time in their life.  The group also supports CAMPERS ON MISSION.  Campers on Mission provides meals for the homeless at the state fair.  These G.O.D.ly Ladies work to help provide Campers on Mission with the food resources needed to make this happen each year.
