“I always liked solving problems,” says Edward Jones Financial Advisor Brandon Monette. “That’s why I originally came here. I wanted to help people solve any financial problems that they had and help them get to anywhere they needed to be financially.”
As a Financial Advisor, that’s exactly what Monette does. “A lot of people probably don’t know what Edward Jones does exactly,” says Monette. “I work with individual investors to create long-term, personalized financial plans. We do all different types of financial planning, but it basically boils down to helping you find the best placed to put your money for your plan in life.”
Edward Jones helps clients plan for and reach a variety of long-term financial goals. “They could be saving for retirement, They could be saving for a trip. They could be saving for their kids’ education,” says Monette. “We do a lot of estate planning. They could be saving for eventually passing on sums of money to their children or charities.”
In essence, Monette helps his clients walk through their finances and understand what the best decisions are to help them reach their financial goals. Say you come to Monette concerned about saving for your children’s college education. “I’ll sit down and review your whole financial situation,” says Monette. “I’ll look over any debt you may have, any assets you may have. We’ll go through a whole process we have here and run through what school your child many want to go to, and then we’ll see how much you have to put away each month, and how much that will give your child to go to school. We’ll also talk about what type of account is appropriate for your child as there are different types of accounts for saving for college.”
Of course, education savings is only one of the many services Edward Jones offers. Some of the other popular investments services they offer are business retirement plans, estate and trust services, fixed-income investments, individual retirement accounts, and portfolio and retirement plan reviews.
With a full picture of a client’s financial situation, Monette can help that client understand whether they or on the right track with their savings and investments. “I walk through everything you have,” says Monette. “I would see if that education savings account is the best place to put your money. Maybe you should be saving money for something else, and we should be planning in a different way. It all depends on the individual because everyone has their own circumstances.”
Monette had just earned his law license when he had the chance to visit an Edward Jones advisor in his office and see how the process worked. He was immediately drawn to the work Edward Jones does and the personalized way they do business.
“I’d always invested myself, so I’d been familiar with the business,” says Monette. “I wanted something where I could work in a small town and work with individuals one on one. I liked that they knew all their clients on on one. Whenever anybody came in, the office manager always knew their names. It was very personalized.”
Edward Jones’ accolades also speak for themselves. In February of 2019, Edward Jones was named one of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” for the 20th year. In March of 2019, Edward Jones ranked highest in investor satisfaction with full service brokerage firms.
Monette was working at the Harrisburg Edward Jones office when he approached the company with the idea of opening a branch in his hometown of Mint Hill. After doing their research, Edward Jones thought the growing community of Mint Hill would be a great place to add another Edward Jones office.
For ten-year Charlotte-area resident Monette, Mint Hill is the perfect place to live and work. “My wife and I both grew up in a small town outside of Syracuse, a similar distance to Syracuse as Mint Hill is to Charlotte.” When the couple relocated to North Carolina for law school and nursing school, they were looking for something with a similar feel. “It felt like home without the snow!”
From his Mint Hill office, Monette is able to give the individualized and personalized service he envisioned in the community he loves. “All my clients get me when they come in. There’s no 1-800 number,” says Monette. “I didn’t want to be behind a desk answering phone calls or typing up briefs all day. I was looking for something where i would know the clients and I wouldn’t just be on the other end of the phone line.”
“A lot of people have trouble understanding what they own or what they should put away,” concludes Monette. “I like to help them understand that, to help them understand what different financial vehicles there are to help them achieve their goals.”
