Lady Patriots take third place at East Lincoln Winter Jam

The Lady Patriots basketball team defeated Hough 70-62 on Monday night to take third place in the East Lincoln Winter Jam.

Indy’s Braylyn Milton led the Lady Patriots with 27 points, but her landmark achievement came at the 4:27 mark of the third quarter when Braylyn was fouled on a drive down the lane.  She went to the foul line and sank a free throw to give her 1,000 career points.  She finished the night with 2 rebounds, 3 blocked shots and 1 assist.  Braylyn also went 12 for 12 from the charity stripe.

Trinity Thompson poured in 17 points, pulled down 5 rebounds and had 4 assists and 1 steal.  Ayanna Anderson scored 6 points grabbed 9 rebounds, had 1 assist, 2 steals and 1 blocked shot.  Alex Barrino had 6 points, and 1 rebound.  Gracie Breckenridge scored 6 points, pulled down 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots.  Laura Flynn added 4 points.  She had 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.  Trinity Benjamin and Azuria Barrino scored 2 points each.  Barrino also had 3 rebounds.

The Lady Patriots improved their record to 10-2 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.  Coach Galvani said, “Going into the tournament we saw who was in the tournament and knew that we were going to be playing against some really good teams.  Of course we wanted to go 3-0 and win the tournament.  But realistic with all the talent in a Christmas tournament going 2-1 is the goal.

Hough opened the game with a two point basket to lead 2-0 at the 7:18 mark.  This would be the only time the Lady Huskies would lead in the game.

Trinity Thompson answered with a 3-point basket to give Indy the lead.  Braylyn Milton took the ball down the lane and Gracie Breckenridge scored on an offensive rebound giving Indy a 7-2 lead with 5:37 remaining in the first quarter.

Hough answered with a 3-pointer and a field goal to tie the score at seven.  However, Laura Flynn hit a 15-foot jumper followed by a Braylyn Milton 3-pointer and a Gracie Breckenridge basket to gave the Lady Patriots a 16-9 lead.  Hough fought back with three 3-pointers to make the score 20-18 in favor of the Lady Patriots at te end of  the quarter.

Indy’s Alex Barrino started the second quarter with a ten foot jumper.  The Lady Patriots stayed out front but could never put the Lady Huskies away.  With 1:24 left in the half, Trinity Thompson hit a top of the key jumper to give Indy a 34-24 lead.  But Hough managed to score before the buzzer sounded, and Indy led by six 34-26 at the break.

In the third period Hough kept hanging around but could never take the lead.  With 1:33 remaining in the period, Trinity Thompson hit a 3-point basket to give Indy a 47-37 lead.  Both teams scored before the quarter ended and Indy headed into the final stanza leading 49-39.

In the final period, Indy moved out to a 15-point lead, but Hough played  hard in the final minute and cut the lead to 8-points.  The Lady Patriots took the third place victory with a score of 70-62.
