Lady Patriots Advance To The Elite Eight

Round 1

Independence 62, Northwest Guilford 49



After having secured a twelfth-round seed in the state basketball playoffs, the Lady Patriots opened play on Tuesday with an upset win over the number five seed Northwest Guilford Lady Vikings.

Indy’s Jessica Timmons continued her trend of posting double figures as the NC State recruit led the Lady Patriots to a 13-point win over the LadyVikings 62-49.

Jessica Timmons led the Lady Patriots with 36 points, 4 rebounds, and 1steal. Freshman Kaylee posted a double-double with 11 points and 10rebounds. She also had 3 assists. Cincinnati recruits Braylyn Milton added9 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, had 4 assists and 2 steals. Chloe Mosshad 4 points and 3 rebounds. Gracie Breckenridge finished the night with2 points and 4 rebounds.

With the win, the Lady Patriots advanced to the Sweet 16 and a road game against the number 4 seed East Forsyth Lady Eagles.

Round 2

Independence 63, East Forsyth 44

On Thursday night the Lady Patriots upset the number 4 seed the EastForsyth Lady Eagles 63-44 in the sweet 16 round of the state basketball playoffs.

The Lady Patriots jumped out to a 19-9 first-quarter lead and led 29-21 at halftime. In the second half Indy held East Forsyth to 23 points while scoring 34 second-half points to advance to the Elite-8 and a game against the number 1 seed Zebulon B. Vance on Saturday, February 27th.

Jessica Timmons led the scoring with 32 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and1 steal. Braylyn Milton poured in 12 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists. Kaylee Carson added 9 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and 2 assists. GracieBreckenridge scored 4 points, pulled down 9 rebounds and 1 assist. Chloe Moss had 4 points and 1 rebound.
