
On Thursday afternoon the Independence junior varsity football team improved its record to 2-0 by defeating the Olympic Trojans 26-6.
Indy scored first on a touchdown pass from Harrison Gates to Austin Cowick to take a 6-0 lead at the 6:22 mark. Indy posted a second score in the first period when quarterback Harrison Gates scored on a keeper with 3:19 showing to make the score 12-0.
In the second quarter the Patriots had to punt out of their own end zone. The punt was tipped and rolled to the 22 yard line where an Olympic player touched the ball. Indy recovered the free ball, but the referee gave the Trojans the ball on Indy’s 20 yard line.
The Trojans scored on the turnover to make the score 12-6 with 7:18 left in the first half.
With 2:20 left in the third period, Harrison Gates and Austin Cowick hooked up for another touchdown pass to make the score 18-6. On the two point conversion attempt Gates hit Cowick for the two points making the score 20-6.
The Patriots posted their last score with 3:16 left in the game. Quarterback Harrison Gates scored on a 7 yard run to make the final score 26-6.
The junior varsity improved to 2-0 and will host Ardrey Kell Thursday afternoon. Kick off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
