Indy girls rolls past East Meck

The Independence women’s varsity basketball team didn’t waste any time Tuesday night as they sprinted out to a double-digit lead half way through the first quarter.  It all happened in a hurry as the Lady Patriots forced five first quarter turnovers and went on an 18-0 run to take a 24-3 first quarter lead.

Indy’s Alex Barrino started the second quarter by scoring six straight points.  Alex scored on an offensive rebound and a stick back.  She then hit on a jumper in the lane and nailed a ten-foot jumper to make the score 30-5.  With 3:14 left in the half, Gracie Breckenridge grabbed an offensive rebound and scored.  Ayanna Anderson scored from the charity stripe followed by another Gracie Breckenridge rebound and stick back to make the score 35-12.

In the last 29 seconds of the half, Trinity Thompson nailed a 3-point basket and created a turnover for a layup to make the halftime score 40-12.

East Meck started the second half with a field goal, after which the Lady Patriots went on an 18-0 run.  Indy’s Braylyn Milton started the run with a baseline field goal, then scoring on a turnover and scoring another basket from the charity stripe to make the score 44-14.

After Gracie Breckenridge scored off an offensive rebound, Ayanna Anderson scored in the lane.  Mariah Washington hit a short jumper followed by a Braylyn Milton 3-pointer.  Gracie Breckenridge hit a shot under the basket followed by a Trinity Thompson steal and layup putting Indy up 58-14 with 2:26 left in the third period.

After an East Meck basket, Mariah Washington finished the third quarter scoring by hitting one-of-two foul shots to make the third quarter margin 59-16.

In the final stanza, both teams scored only four points each to make the final score 63-20 to give the Lady Patriots the conference win.

Braylyn Milton led the Lady Patriots with 19 points.  She had 2 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.  Trinity Thompson poured in 15 points and grabbed 2 rebounds. She had 4 assists and 9 steals.  Gracie Breckenridge scored 9 points, pulled down 8 rebounds, had 2 steals and 6 blocked shots.  Alex Barrino had 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 steal.  Ayanna Anderson added 7 points, had 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 blocked shot.  Mariah Washington hit for 5 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and had 1 assist.

With the win, the Lady Patriots improved to 7-2 in conference play and 15-4 overall.

On Friday night the Lady Patriots will host Porter Ridge in an important  Southwestern 4A Conference match.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
