
CHARLOTTE – Tuesday night was senior night at Independence High School. The Lady Patriots took a 77-29 blowout conference victory over the Porter Ridge Lady Pirates. In the men’s game, the Patriots stayed undefeated by taking a 76-61 conference win over the Pirates.
Women’s Game
Porter Ridge 29, Independence 77

Freshman Kaylee Carson posted a double-double for the Lady Patriots. She scored 12 points, pulled down 13 rebounds, and had 4 assists. Senior Jessica Timmons led the team with 46 points. She shot 82% from the floor hitting 18-of-22 shots. She also had 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and had 3 steals. Braylyn Milton added 13 points, 3 rebounds, a team-high 9 assists, and 1 steal. Averie DiBenedetto scored 2 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, had 2 assists and 1 steal. Gracie Breckenridge had 2 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Chloe Moss scored 2 points, pulled down 6 rebounds, and had 2 assists. The Lady Patriots jumped out to a 17-2 first-quarter lead and never slowed down, finishing the first quarter with a 22-4 lead. In the second quarter, the Lady Pirates scored 10 points, but the Lady Patriots added 27 points to take a 49-14 halftime lead. In the second half, the Lady Patriots activated the running clock by taking a forty point lead. With the continuous clock and Coach Lauren Galvani making a multitude of substitutions, the Lady Patriots outscored their opponents 14-10. In the final quarter, Indy scored 14 more points while holding Porter Ridge to only 5 points, As time was running out Coach Galvani put her seniors back on the court to finish the senior night.

Men’s Game

On Tuesday night the Porter Ridge Pirates jumped out to an early 6-0 lead before Indy’s Amir Davenport cut the lead in half with a 3-pointer at the 5:06 mark. Tachai Miller cut the score to one 6-5 on a steal and a drive down the lane. Miller then gave the Patriots their first lead by hitting two free throws to make the score 7-6 with 4:21 remaining in the first quarter. Porter Ridge fought back to take an 11-7 lead. However, Indy’s Ralph Johnson scored on an inbounds play and Landon King tied the score at 11-11. At the 1:42 mark, Landon King hit a 3-pointer to give Indy a 14-11 lead and the Patriots never trailed again. After King’s 3-pointer, he made two free throws to give the Patriots a five-point lead 16-11. With 15 seconds left Divine Allah hit a baseline 3-pointer to make the score 19-11, but Porter Ridge scored with nine seconds showing on the clock to make the score 19-13 at the end of the first period. Indy started the second quarter on an 11-0 run. Camren Little started the run with a drive down the middle of the lane. Jalen Hinton hit a 3-pointer followed by a Divine Allah basket. After Landon King made two from the charity stripe, Tachai Miller got a steal and passed to Divine Allah who made the score 30-13 with 4:35 left in the first half. With 4:20 showing on the clock, Porter Ridge went on a short run by hitting back-to-back 3-pointers making the score 30-19. Indy’s Jalen Hinton answered with two made free throws. After Porter Ridge Ridge made a free throw, Landon King drained a 3-pointer and then scored on a layup giving Indy a 37-20 lead. The Pirates answered with a basket. Then Jalen Hinton hit a 3-pointer from the baseline to make the score 40-22. The Pirates finished out the first half by making two from the charity stripe to make the half time score 40-24.

The second half started out with the Pirates scoring an old-fashion 3-point play and then hitting a short jumper to make the score 40-29. With 5:20 to go in the quarter, Isaiah Thomas scored on a baseline drive. Ralph Johnson added two more points on a jumper to make the score 46-31. With 3:28 remaining, Indy had the ball out-of-bounds under its own basket. The inbounds pass went to Divine Allah for the layup making the score 48-34. At the 2:06 mark, Camren Little scored and was fouled putting Indy up 52-38. Then at the 1:39 mark Little nailed a 3-pointer making the score 55-38. Isaiah Thomas added a basket for the Patriots while the Pirates finished the quarter with three points to make the score 57-41. Porter Ridge started the final period with a 6-0 run cutting Indy’s lead to ten points 57-47. With 6:08 left in the game Indy’s Divine Allah drove the baseline for a basket. Jalen Hinton made a free throw to make the score 60-47. However, the Pirates answered with a 3-point bucket staying within ten points 60-50. Indy jumped back out to a 14-point lead on baskets by Isaiah Thomas and Tachai Miller. Indy maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the game and took a 76-61 conference win over the Pirates. Landon King led the Patriots with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Jalen Hinton added 14 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Divine Allah scored 11 points, pulled down 6 rebounds, and had 1 assist. Isaiah Thomas had 11 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, had 2 assists, and 1 steal. Camren Little added 10 points, had 4 rebounds and 1 assist. Tachai Miller scored 6 points and 4 rebounds. He had 6 assists and 1 steal. Ralph Johnson scored 4 points with 1 rebound and 1 steal. Amir Davenport scored 3 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals.
