At GB Electrical Services in Mint Hill, the emphasis is on providing a family atmosphere for its team of experienced professionals.
Nicki Bartholomy, vice president of the company, says she and husband Greg, the company president, “believe in treating our employees as part of the family. We try to approve all requests for time off to do family events, for example, kids’ school activities and weddings. …We believe if we take care of the team, then they will take care of the customers.” GB Electrical Services employs 10 people, including an office manager, field supervisor and five service technicians. The company’s clients are mostly residential and they keep the team busy. Technicians respond to about 900 service calls a year. “We can run up to nine service calls per day sometimes,” says Nicki.
Family-owned since 2008, GB Electrical’s services include lighting, diagnostics, generators, smoke alarms, safety evaluations, and surge protection. Its coverage area consists of Charlotte, Concord, Harrisburg, Huntersville, Matthews, Midland, Mint Hill, Monroe, Indian Trail, and Stallings.
Each workday morning, the company’s technicians are trained for one hour before leaving the shop. Training includes briefings on new products and updates on codes. “We receive excellent reviews on Google and social media from happy customers who feel like they were treated well by knowledgeable technicians,” says Nicki.
The Bartholomys, who live in Mint Hill, moved to the Charlotte area in 2005 after Greg accepted a job with a large electrical contracting company. Greg started his electrical contracting company “after doing side work for several years,” says Nicki. “We started out with just Greg in a truck working out of our garage. We now have a shop in Mint Hill that serves as a warehouse, large training room, and office. Greg would like to see GB Electrical Services expand to 10 service vans (it currently has five) in the next five years.”
