The 35th anniversary of Mint Hill Madness comes this year and the town has big plans for it.

The annual festival will once again fall on Memorial Day weekend and will be held May 25-27 at Mint Hill Veterans Memorial Park (formerly Mint Hill Park on Fairview).

According to the Mint Hill Madness website, the festival celebrates the founding of the Town of Mint Hill. It offers activities for people of all ages, food, musical performances, a parade, rides, vendors and a fireworks show.

While the festival will be similar to how it has been in the past, in honor of the anniversary some changes are being made, Sheryl Smith, an organizer of the event and executive director of Mint Hill events for the town, said.

“So for the 35th anniversary our goal is just to make it bigger and better than ever,” Smith said.

For this year’s event, the entertainment budget has been increased. They are looking to add more performances, rides, a larger parade and more, Smith said.

“We’re having the largest fireworks show that we’ve ever had,” she said.

This will be the fourth year she has helped organize the festival and she is looking forward to it. Mint Hill Madness originally started out as a much smaller event, but has continued to grow over the years. Previously it was organized by the Mint Hill Chamber of Commerce, but in 2014 the Town of Mint Hill took it over, Smith said.

During the time she has helped with the festival, the town has added and changed some aspects of it such as rearranging the festival’s layout and adding more vendor spaces. A fitness competition known as The Battle of Mint Hill has also been added, she said.

One new thing to this year’s festival is there will be entertainment offered on Sunday. Currently a magic show is planned for the entertainment that day, Smith said.

“Our goal is for everybody to have a good time,” she said.

Additional information about this year’s festival will later be added to the Mint Hill Madness website at minthillmadnessfestival.org.

Information about last year’s event as well as some information about this coming year’s event can currently be found on the website.
