MINT HILL, NC – Jessica Timmons started off the season right where she left off with North Mecklenburg last year. The transfer has fit into the style of play and system used by Independence coach Lauren Galvani.

Timmons in the backcourt with another standout Braylyn Milton has combined to make the Lady Patriots a real contender to win the SW4A Conference this basketball season, along with a solid group of role players both in starting positions and a deep bench.

Timmons is a five-star prospect who is ranked No. 45 overall, and No. 18 in her position by ESPN. Timmons is only one of four five-star prospects from North Carolina. Last season she averaged 24.7 points per game, 8.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.9 steals. Through only three games with Indy she is averaging 28.3 points per game, 7.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.3 steals with a 73% average field goal percentage. In a recent game against Porter Ridge, Timmons scored a Patriot career high 46 points. She netted 18 field goals, shooting 6-8 from the 3-point range, and 12-14 two pointers, with a FG% of 82 percent. She grabbed 6 rebounds, adding 2 assists, and 3 steals to lead the team to a lopsided 77-29 victory.

The Mint Hill Times sports editor and sports writers want to congratulate Jessica on being selected our first 2021 Featured Athlete of the Week based on her most recent outstanding performance on the hardcourt.
