MINT HILL, NC – Braylyn Milton the 5’11” guard who is heading to the University of Cincinnati in the Fall has received the recognition she deserves and earned as the girls’ basketball all-time leading scorer at Independence High School.

Milton during her fabulous four year career scored a total of 1,413 points while landing 143 3-pointers, the most made by any Lady Patriot basketball player in the schools long history.

In her senior season she averaged 14 points per game, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals for the Patriots. In her entire high school career she averaged 16.2 points per game, 3.7 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.3 steals.

Braylyn played a key role in turning the Independence girls’ basketball program around in her four years playing for coach Lauren Galvani. The Patriots improved dramatically from a 9-84 record from 2013 to 2017 to a very competitive 51-38 during the 4 years Milton performed on the hardcourt. She also led Indy to their first NCHSAA Elite 8 appearance in the Division 4A state championship tournament in over 20 years. And the team lost in overtime by 2 points 63-61 to the eventual 4A state champion Vance High School. Indy gave the Lady Cougars their biggest test and most competitive basketball game in the state tournament and probably their entire season.

Milton was selected as a 4-time Southwestern 4A All-Conference player, and a 3-time All-District player during her career. She was recently nominated to the 2021 Carolina’s Classic All-Star game.

The Mint Hill Times sports editor and writers want to congratulate Braylyn Milton for being selected this weeks Featured Player of the Week.
