CJ Brown, Independence Patriots

The Independence High School senior is having a solid year for the Patriots baseball team. He has been a steady force and influence on a young ball club who has remained in the middle of the pack in the Southwestern 4A Conference.

Brown had one of his best games this past week of the season.  In a spring break tournament game against the Warriors from Indian Land, Fort Mill, South Carolina, he had a big day leading the offense to a come from behind 6-5 victory.  CJ went 4-4 on three singles and a double, he drove in 3 RBI’s, and scored one run.

On the season his batting average is .300, OBP .474, OPS .842.  He has 6 RBI’s and 19 runs scored.  The senior has worked 16 base on balls which gives the offense an opportunity to score runs.  He is quick on the base paths, his speed leads to stolen bases and disruption forcing errors and mental mistakes by the opposition.  He has a fielding percentage of .920 which is also a solid statistic.

The senior has signed a letter of intent to Erskine College in autumn, and plans to be playing baseball for the Flying Fleet who play Division II collegiate athletics.

The Sports Editor and staff of the Mint Hill Times congratulate CJ Brown for being selected this week’s “Featured Player of the Week.”
