Janet Carothers, who operates Dreamy Interior Designs, uses her knowledge and skills to make customers happy.
Her business has been around about 12 years and for the last nine years, it has been located in Mint Hill.
Though located in Mint Hill, Carothers works with clients throughout the Charlotte region.
Before starting the business, she worked in a corporate position in the realty profession and decided to leave that position to follow her dream, Carothers said.
“I resigned from there (the real estate company) and I thought to myself, if I worked that hard for him (her boss at the time), you can imagine how much I could do on my own working for myself and I always loved design for as long as I can remember,” she said.
She started the business in Pittsburgh, Penn. She was always interested in moving to North Carolina and when she moved to Mint Hill nine years ago, she decided to continue on with operating her business. Transitioning Dreamy Interior Designs from Pittsburgh to Charlotte wasn’t easy, but the business today is doing well and she continues working to bring in new clients, Carothers said.
“I am self-taught,” she said when describing her interior design skills.
She is a color specialist and is known for breaking some design rules in order to create the best look for her customers, Carothers said.
“The key to success is to get to know your clients,” she said.
Her focus is providing her clients with everything they want and making them happy. In the past she has worked with a variety of clients that have included small business owners, homeowners, realtors and others. Whether it’s picking out colors, arranging furniture or other design techniques clients hire her for, she is up for the task,” Carothers said.
“It brings me joy,” she said in reference to working in the interior design profession.
She has always enjoyed designing and often has the most fun creating spaces that are warm, cozy and functional,” she said.
