Amen started at Kumon Learning Center, Mint Hill location when he needed more support with his English. His family came from Africa when he was 6 years old. During the years, being able to communicate effectively in English and working with the language, along with reading and writing was not his strength. English is not also his parents’ first language and to ensure that he received the building blocks of the language that he needed and the skills to excel the family was looking for support. When they found the program at Kumon Learning Center they knew it was just what they were looking for.

Kumon Learning Center offers a program that is very unique and is designed to help any child with any ability. The program gives students the tools to be able to progress to their maximum academic potential and along the way create a learner that is enthusiastic. When designing a program for each student assessments are used to be able to tailor the learning program to their needs. The assessments are able to track each student’s abilities and allow the program to give them guidance that builds their ability and does it in small manageable steps that build their skills. This builds a student’s confidence in learning and ability with a bonus in problem-solving and ability to self-learn. Each program is designed for the student which gives them the track to be able to reach their academic potential and build a strong foundation for success.

Amen Keterat is just that; a true success story. He has been able to use the Kumon Learning Center to build a strong foundation that has created a strong student inside and outside the classroom. He started his journey at Kumon when he entered the 4th grade. The goal was to be able to bridge the gap that had been created with English being his second language. He needed support with his vocabulary, strengthening his ability to compose sentences, and help with building his confidence to be able to communicate fluently in English. Not only were the instructors able to help with strengthening that foundation, but they were also able to help him excel. The program and how it is designed allows students to be able to shine through their dedication. His dedication to the program shows exactly his success. He was very dedicated to strengthening his English, even when face-to-face instruction was not available Amen utilized online instruction, and completed his worksheets each and every day. As his abilities grew, so did his commitment to the program, even when testing a grade level, Amen preserved on and surpassed what was expected. This perseverance shows as he is the first student since the Kumon Learning Center in Mint Hill opened in 2016 to be able to complete the Reading Program.
