Pork Ribs Are Popular
On Friday and Saturday, Blessed Assurance Adult Daycare hosted its eighth annual BBQ fundraiser, where over a thousand dinners were going out into the community for a very worthy cause. Nate Huggins, Founder of Blessed Assurance, said, “The community has been very good to us in supporting this fundraiser.” He explained, “The funds go to supplement the quality of our programs.”
With choices of a pound of pork BBQ, a pork BBQ dinner with three or four sides, or for those who prefer, BBQ chicken, there seemed to be something to please every palate. The Texas Roadhouse catering truck was in non-stop activity filling the demand.

Blessed Assurance Adult Daycare, a non Profit organization founded in 1998, provides a number of much-needed services to Mecklenburg, Union, Cabarrus, and York counties. Their goal is to improve the quality of life for disabled veterans, disabled seniors, and of those adults who have special needs. Their services include recreational activities, personal hygiene maintenance, nutritional noon meals and snacks, medication supervision, and transportation. Participants can take in the program as many as five days a week, depending on the needs of the caregiver and the person being given care.
In addition, Blessed Assurance provides health service maintenance monitoring in the concerns of blood pressure and heart rate, blood sugar, respiration, and temperature, to name just a few. For convenience, there is a hair stylist and barber on the premises, and a place to get manicures and pedicures. For the benefit of caregivers, a family support group is available for those caregivers to share their concerns with others in similar situations, and who often feel overwhelmed.

Typical participants are at least 18 years of age, and possibly experience mental challenges like Alzheimers, Down Syndrome, Schizophrenia, or brain injury. On the other hand, the impairment may be physical and includes Parkinson’s, Diabetes, or Chronic Hypertension. At times, there are those who are in need of rehabilitation services to ensure they can continue to live independently. Sometimes the participant’s greatest need–and one of Blessed Assurance’s most important benefits–is simply the daily association with peers, something they may be lacking through their in-home care.

Mr. Huggins, who noted Blessed Assurance will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in February, 2018, wanted to reach out to the community in appreciation for all they have done in the past 20 years to support Blessed Assurance. “It is a community I am proud to have had the privilege of serving.”
