Prior to the 4th of July holiday a short comedy sketch was performed at the Willow Grove Independent Retirement Living Community locally. The parody was a short informal performance intended to entertain and bring some additional laughter and joy to the senior residents who live at the facility.

The performance was really put together in the spur of the moment, the two ladies wanted to perform something together that would be entertaining and enjoyable for the residents. They certainly accomplished their mission based on the response of the audience.

The parody “There’s a Hole in My Bucket” was performed as part of a going away party for the Milo Program. The composition is a children’s song based on a dialogue between two characters, called Henry and Liza, about a leaky bucket. The song describes a deadlock situation between the two characters. Henry has a leaky bucket, and Liza tells him to please fix it. However, to repair the leaky bucket Henry needs a straw. To cut the straw, he requires an axe. To sharpen the axe, he needs to wet the sharpening stone. To wet the stone, he must have water. But to fetch water, he needs the bucket, which of course has a hole in it. So this is the challenge faced by the two characters which was performed to the amusement and delight of the crowd of seniors in attendance.

One of the stars of the two character performance was Mary Ann Kudelka who is a real ham, an entertainer at heart even at 83 years young. She performed with Emily Rumrill from the Milo Project who has been active at the facility for almost 1.5 years. The program provided activities three times weekly and maintained important individual relationships with many seniors.

Kudelka experience goes back to her days in the Air-Force when she performed throughout the Pacific with the USO to entertain our troops in the mid-1950’s.
