The Mint Hill Chamber of Commerce held their 7th Annual Golf Tournament at the Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation recently with a great turnout for another fantastic day on the greens. The Title Sponsor of the event was Novant Health.
This year it was actually cloudy and breezy due to hurricane Dorian impacting the Carolina coast between Myrtle Beach and Wilmington. However, we had no rain and everyone seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves at the event.
Registration at started 11:30 a.m., at 12:00 noon the driving range opened, meanwhile, Chick-fil-A donated a lunch and the 1:00 p.m. Shotgun start began. After the completion of an afternoon of golfing, the attendees enjoyed a Post Tournament Awards and Dinner provided by Morrison Healthcare.
Another record was set again this year with over $28,000 being raised from the outing from the business community. “The support was phenomenal, the funds raised will be used for our Chamber programs and community events,” said Paige McKinney, Executive Director of the Chamber. “Furthermore, so many people worked very hard to put this event together, and we are so pleased with the final outcome.”
Joy Greear, Chair of the Golf Outing Committee, and President, COO at the Mint Hill Medical Center, who the writer had the opportunity to drive around the course during the event in a golf cart was very pleased about the turnout, and was hopeful the event would exceed the $28,000 raised and end up generating closer to $30,000 for the fundraiser.
Greear, also mentioned, the funds raised will go to scholarships for graduating seniors, the annual Veterans Breakfast, the Senior Citizens Christmas Luncheon, and the bi-annual shred event.
The Double Eagle Sponsors of the fundraising event include Vannoy Construction, LabCorp, AExcellent Telecommunications Inc., and Gresham Smith Partners.
The Mint Hill Chamber of Commerce is a networking non-profit 501(C) 3 organization supporting the local business community in Mint Hill. The Chamber promotes and works in collaboration with businesses to cultivate and develop a growing and vibrant community.
Finally, what was interesting and different on the course, was a organization named Charity Golf Guns. They provide an AR-15 Air Cannon golf ball launcher or an Air Cannon golf ball launcher. So on a par 4 or 5 up to 400 yards or more instead of a golfer hitting a ball with their driver, they put on the earmuffs to muffle the sound, then shoot the AR-15 in the direction of the hole chosen on the course with a golf ball. The air cannon can be set-up on a par 3 hole from 150 to 300 yards. Of course there is a charge for this experience, but it is for a good cause with a specified portion of the funds going to the charities supported by the event.
