Instagram is adding a new groups feature

Instagram is making updates to the way users can choose to view their newsfeeds.

The social media platform is rolling out a new feature that allows users to group who they follow into different categories.

The new “Following Categories” feature group lists such as:

  • Accounts you see most often
  • Accounts you least interact with
  • Accounts sorted by earliest to latest followed

This update to the platform will hopefully help users see the content they want to see while skipping the content they don’t care as much about. Bringing more value to their newsfeed by keeping it relevant.

An Instagram spokesperson told TechCrunch:

“Instagram is really about bringing you closer to the people and things you care about – but we know that over time, your interests and relationships can evolve and change. We want to make it easier to manage the accounts you follow on Instagram so that they best represent your current connections and interests.”

Other social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter have incorporated similar features.

As social media becomes increasingly noisy features like this new one from Instagram are more and more necessary so that users can have sufficient control over what they see in their newsfeed.
