What exactly does a social media manager do?

I get this question all the time, and for good reason, social media is such a new field of work, it’s hard to understand what someone working in it actually does.

Mostly, I create content for businesses and manage getting the content posted, like the posts you see from a business page you’ve liked on Facebook. I also create and manage paid ad campaigns, the sponsored posts you see from business pages.

There’s more to it, of course, but that’s the short version.

Social media has become a must for anyone who wants to be engaged and involved in the community.

While businesses want to engage with their community to promote their products or services, plenty of other organizations, like non-profits, schools, clubs, government, and churches can use social media to communicate with the people they want to reach as well.
