Pumpkin Spice Season is upon us, is your car ready Part 2

Last week we reviewed maintaining fluids and wiper blades, this week we will take a look at belts, hoses, batteries and more to make sure your car is ready for the changing seasons.

Check tire pressure – Cold weather causes the air pressure in your tires to drop, and low pressure can cause uneven wear on tires. Tires should be checked about once a month, regardless of the season or weather conditions. You can find your vehicle’s specific pressure requirements on a sticker inside the doorjamb of the driver’s side of the vehicle if you’re unsure how much air your tires need. Most auto shops fill tires with air for free, so if you get low feel free to swing by your shop of choice.

Pack an Emergency Kit – This is a good idea any time of year. These kits normally include warning signs, non-perishable snacks, water, phone numbers of local emergency services and a first-aid kit, but in the winter make sure this kit includes blankets. If you plan on visiting areas with heavy snow, kitty litter is also a great thing to pack – it can help free your tires if you get stuck in slush and snow.

Check Belts and Hoses – The last thing you want snapping due to the cold is your timing belt. Have it checked!

Check Your Battery – old batteries do not like cold. If your battery is nearing the end of its useful lifespan, change it out before the temperature drops.

As usual, if you have any questions do not hesitate to call Ken at 704-545-4597 or stop by Manchester Auto and Tire of Mint Hill and have us take a look to make sure your car is ready for fall.
