On the way to get our fresh Thanksgiving turkey in Union County last Wednesday night.  My tire went flat.  It didn’t just go flat- it ripped to shreds.  Unfortunately, the spare was busted too, so I had to leave my car in a neighbor’s driveway overnight until I could get it towed home the next day.  I left a note with my phone number on the car explaining the situation.  The homeowners called and assured me that my car would be fine and said: “if you’re going to have car trouble, you picked a good spot to have it.”  Now, wasn’t that sweet?

Shout out to the Rodney Love family for being so kind to my daughter and me that night. Living out here is rewarding in so many ways, but my favorite reason is the kindness and generosity of the people.

About three years ago, my three children and I went to see a man about some chickens;  4 chickens to be exact.   We bought them, loaded them in acage in the back of the truck and took off – back across the river to Stanly County.  On the way home, our radiator hose busted.  Thankfully, a church was nearby, and we pulled over in their parking lot to call AAA.   Well, church was just letting out that Wednesday evening and every single member of the congregation stopped on their way out and offered to give me, the three kids and the four chickens a ride home.  Who does that?
