May Celebrations

You won’t need to find a reason for a celebration this month. May is a month packed with special holidays and events!

May 1 – May Day
May Day is a celebration celebrating youth and springtime. Traditional celebrations call for maypole dancing and crowning the May Queen with a crown of flowers. May baskets seem to be a forgotten May Day tradition that I would love to see brought alive again. May baskets are small baskets of flowers and candies hung on the doors of friends and neighbors as a way of welcoming them into warmer weather. It is said that boys would often hang baskets on the doorknobs of the ladies they fancied. Such a sweet gesture – let’s bring this one back!

May 2 – Brother’s & Sisters Day
Encourage your children to do something nice for their siblings!

May 4 – Star Wars Day “May the 4th be with you!”
I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by watching your favorite Star Wars movie! Maybe a movie binge is in order?

May 5 – Cinco de Mayo
In the United States, we tend to celebrate the 5th of May as a celebration of Mexican-American culture. It is often mistaken as Mexican Independence Day – which is September 16th. May 5th actually commemorates the Mexican Army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. In Mexico, the holiday is celebrated with parades of the armed forces. At the end of the day though, we are all celebrating Mexico! Now you have some info to share with your friends over delicious Mexican beer & food!

May 6 – National Teachers Day, National Beverage Day & National No Diet Day
What would we do without teachers? What a great day to celebrate them and their hard work. Let’s do something nice for our teaching staff and friends then celebrate with a beverage for ourselves while eating what we want! Ha!

May 8 – VE Day WWII

May 14 – Mother’s Day
Make sure she feels extra special today! Check out the restaurants serving brunch or serve brunch at home. Don’t forget the mimosas!

May 18 – National Visit Your Relatives Day
You know you should!

May 25 – National Wine Day
If only I could think of a way to celebrate this holiday??? I’m sure you can think of something! If not, visit your favorite local wine bar!

May 26 through May 28 – Mint Hill Madness!

May 27 – Mint Hill Memorial Day Parade 9:00 AM Matthews-Mint Hill Rd. In front of the Town Hall.

May 29 – Memorial Day
How will you honor our brave, fallen hero’s? I will be taking a moment of prayer for our nation, those who have lost their lives and their families. I will proudly display my American flag and not take my freedoms for granted.

Remember to celebrate something everyday no matter how small. It’s the little moments in life that make the best memories!

Cheers!
