MINT HILL, NC – The Butler Bulldogs Ty Black narrowly edges out teammate Zion Mcduffie for being named The Mint Hill Times “Player of the Week.” Both players are deserving as the Bulldogs win streak continues, and they now have sole possession of second place in 4A Conference 59. Butler will play Rocky River the conference leader with only one loss next week.

Black was selected based on his performance against East Mecklenburg scoring 24 points in the decisive victory over the Eagles on Friday night. Also, during the win streak he is averaging 21.3 points per game while making 19 three pointers in wins over East Mecklenburg, Garinger and Providence recently. Mcduffie contributed 18 points in the victory over the Wildcats and is averaging 17.5 points per game this season.

The statistics are solid for Black through 16 games reported not including the massacre over East Mecklenburg 86-65. He is averaging 16.6 points per game which ranks him 6th in the conference, ranks 2nd in 3-pointers with 70, ranks 6th in AFG% at 59%, and drills 83% of his free throws. In the 16 games reported he scored 266 points, add 24 against the Eagles totals 290 points in 17 games, raising his average to 17.1 points per game. His consistency, quickness, senior leadership, excellent ball handling skills along with playing solid defensively throughout the season makes the senior a top notch local high school basketball standout in the Mint Hill-Matthews area.

The sports writers at The Mint Hill Times would like to congratulate Ty Black for being selected this week’s “Player of the Week.”
