MINT HILL, NC – This weeks highlight Player of the Week is Independence softball standout Elizabeth Garbark. The junior had another solid week for the Lady Patriots, but has been a reliable and consistent performer during the entire season.

She leads the club or is close to the top in many key statistical categories. She possess the highest slugging percentage at .775 on the team. She is second in BA .450, OBP .522, hits 18, HRs 2, ranks third in runs 18, and RBIs 13.



She packs a solid OPS 1.297, has accumulated 5 doubles, 1 triple, and 2 home runs for a total of 8 extra base hits for the Patriots.

Against the East Mecklenburg Eagles Garbark went 3-3 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Then followed up with a 1-3 performance against Weddington with a stolen base. She also pitched 2 solid innings in the Eagles game allowing no runs, no hits, 1 base-on-balls, while obtaining 4 strikeouts and tossing only 32 pitches.

Her value to the team is recognized as she can play different positions on the field and is the clubs second pitcher on their staff. Therefore, her versatility and utility make this players contribution a valuable asset to the teams success this season.

The Lady Patriots are 12-4 overall, and 7-1 in the Southwest 4A Conference. The Mint Hill Times sports writers want to congratulate Elizabeth Garbark for her on the field accomplishments and being selected this weeks “Player of the Week.”
