MINT HILL, NC – The senior point guard for the Patriots had himself another consistent week on the hardcourt. After a tough game against West Charlotte, he bounced back with two solid performances for Independence.
On Tuesday night at home against Hopewell he lead all scorers with 16 points. Then he followed up on Friday against Cardinal Gibbons with 14 points to lead the team offensively. He hustles on both offense and defense and has a nose for the ball. He had 4 assists on Friday night, and 3 steals which led to fast break opportunities. On the season to date in six games played he is averaging 14.3 points per game, 2.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.5 steals, and 4.3 tips due to his fast paced aggressive style of play.
Brooks has nice court vision, can find the open man, a crisp passer with good ball handling skills, but has a tendency to dribble more than he should to generate good ball movement from his position on the floor. This can create turnovers and expect this part of his game is something that is being worked on by the coaching staff. Overall, his presence on the basketball court is a major plus for the Patriots as he averages 26.3 minutes playing time per game and has been very productive.
The sports writers at the Mint Hill Times would like to congratulate Bryce Brooks for being selected this week’s Player of the Week.
