Ready For The New Year?

Welcome to 2018. I hope all of you who read this blog/article found yourselves having a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year. As with every New Year, the hot topic on news, radio, television advertisements and the like is all about weight loss. Everything from Weight Watchers to Nutri System and Slim Fast and everything in between. And while these systems can have promising results, many of these systems fall short long term. The difficulty with most of these systems becomes cost, preparation time and accountability. So what do you do and which program do you follow, especially when science goes back and forth on what is best and what is not.

Below are 3 of the best strategies to follow if improving your health, getting off of medications and losing weight are on your 2018 resolutions.

5 Day Water Fast – I preach water fasting with all of my patients because the science behind water fasting is so profound with so many health benefits, that there is absolutely no reason for anyone to not do it. Some of the best benefits – it’s cheap (all you need is water – nothing to buy, no supplements to take, etc); it enhances autophagy which is your body’s ability to kill and eat damaged cells like cancer cells; it requires no thought which means you don’t have to stress about what is for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Intermittent Fasting – Here is another strategy that I recommend and perform daily. The old saying that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” has been debunked as non-sense. While some people do thrive on a healthy breakfast, many people do not need to eat breakfast to have an amazing, energetic and productive morning. In fact, I almost never eat breakfast. The concept here is to Not Eat Less Food (eat to the point of feeling full and satisfied) just Eat Less Often. Choose a feeding schedule that works best for you, ie between 12pm and 7pm, or 10am and 3pm, or 3pm and 8pm.

Cellular Detox – One of the many barriers to poor health and weight gain are the vast array of chemical & metal toxins that we are exposed to daily. If you have a poorly functioning Liver, Kidneys, Digestive System or Respiratory System then you are going to have a difficult to impossible time to removing toxins from your body. As toxins build up in your body, those pesky chemicals and metals are being forced into fat cells and deposited into other healthy tissues like brain and bone tissue. The more toxic you become, the sicker you become and the fatter you become. Unfortunately, many people who become sick rely on medications to ease their symptoms, this approach just adds to your toxic load making you more sick in the long run.

While there are many other great strategies to biohacking your health, these are definitely on my top 5 list of things to do.
