CHARLOTTE – A little over a month ago, you may have heard or read about pop singer Lady Gaga’s French bulldogs being stolen. This was a horrific incident where her dog walker was actually attacked, but unfortunately, we’re hearing about more and more of these occurrences lately.
French bulldogs are a very popular and highly sought after breed, which makes them even more of a target for dog theft. Their small size makes them fairly easy to take, and their high price tag also lends to the fact that they are often targeted.
While French bulldogs are the main breed that keeps popping up in news stories, it’s always smart to consider the following to keep your fur baby safe:
- Watch: Even if they’re just in your yard, you should keep an eye on your pup. Dogs are easier targets when they’re left alone.
- Microchip: If your dog becomes lost or is stolen, the microchip can ultimately reunite you & your pup. It’s also a good idea to keep an identification tag on your dog.
- Spay/neuter: Spaying or neutering your dog when he or she is old enough helps prevent a stolen dog from being used to breed.
- Be careful about social media: People who prey on French bulldogs (or other breeds) might be hunting on social media, so try not to disclose any identifying information.
