Summer Learning Resources for Kids

With COVID-19 school closures, summer learning is even more important this year than ever before. There are many fantastic online resources that can help students catch up on academic concepts that were not covered during the school year due to coronavirus. Here are two of my favorite online learning resources and, best of all, they are completely free!

  • Math: Khan Academy (www.khanacademy.org)

Khan Academy is one of my favorite online learning resources for math. The site offers standards-aligned video lessons and practice problems for all grade levels. To easily identify any areas that your child may need to review, there is a course challenge for each grade level. Khan Academy also provides instruction in science, history, art, computing, and more.

  • Reading: ReadWorks (www.readworks.org)

ReadWorks is an excellent tool for reading comprehension instruction. ReadWorks offers thousands of nonfiction and fiction reading passages for children in Kindergarten through 12th grade. The site offers comprehension questions and vocabulary activities to go along with many of the passages. All articles have a read-aloud option. Specifically for summer learning, ReadWorks offers free, printable summer reading packets for each grade level. Two packet options are available: 10 articles with questions or 20+ articles without questions.
