It’s snowing! I can’t believe it’s the beginning of December and we have already had our first snow.
As I write, I’m sitting by the kitchen window watching big, beautiful, white flakes falling from the sky. Although it’s not sticking, just watching the snow fall is fun.
My kids were so excited to see the first snow of the year. As it started to snow, we bundled up and walked around our yard, enjoying the feel of the soft flakes falling on our faces.
We hope to see snow again soon and hopefully next time it will stick! We love to sled, have snowball fights and make snow angels and snowmen.
Snow is lots of fun! Here are a few unique activities to try the next time a wintery mix blows our way.
- Paint the snow. Using washable paints and brushes or a spray bottle filled with water tinted with food coloring, go outside and paint on the freshly fallen snow. The entire yard can be your canvas!
- Make snow cream. Wisk together 1 cup milk, 1/3 cup granulated sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla extract and a pinch of salt in a large bowl. Add 8 cups of fresh, clean snow and stir to desired consistency. Serve immediately.
- Blow frozen bubbles. When the temperature is below freezing, blow bubbles and watch them freeze on the wand.
- Play freeze tag. What more appropriate game could you play on a snowy, icy day then freeze tag? Once someone is tagged by the person who’s “It,” that person must stay frozen until another player tags him again.
- Play Tic-tac-snow. Make a giant Tic-tac-toe board in the snow. Use crossed sticks to make x’s and pinecones for o’s.
