Homeschooling Pros and Cons (Part 2)

In last week’s column, I discussed the growing popularity of homeschooling, as well as some benefits and drawbacks of homeschooling from my perspective as a homeschool mom.

This week, I wanted to take a look at homeschooling from a student’s perspective. I asked my third grade daughter and first grade son to tell me what they thought about being homeschooled.

Here is the good and the bad of homeschooling from their point of view. I never know what my kids might say and was pleasantly surprised to see that the good outweighed the bad!

The bad stuff:

  • We don’t get to play with friends every day.
  • Brothers and sisters sometimes get on your nerves.

The good stuff:

  • Co-op is lots of fun.
  • We don’t have to wake up to an alarm.
  • Our school day is shorter than public school.
  • We have lots of time to play after our school work is finished.
  • We have pajama day every Friday.
  • We can eat snacks during school if we’re hungry.
  • We can bring a favorite toy to school if we want.
  • We don’t have to wait on other kids to finish work.
  • We get more attention from the teacher.
  • We go on fun field trips.
  • Grandmama comes to help with school a lot.
  • We get to spend more time with Mommy.
