
MINT HILL, NC – Independence Patriots
Basketball:
Jalen Hinton – The senior point guard for the Patriots finished his final season scoring 14 points, 6 steals, and 2 rebounds against South Mecklenburg in the first round playoff loss. Over 8 games played during the shortened season he averaged 13.5 points per game, scoring 108 points, while accumulating 17 steals.
Girl’s Basketball:
Jessica Timmons: In the first two rounds of the state playoffs the talented senior transfer has led the team with a 36 and 32 point performances advancing the Lady Patriots to the third round.
Braylan Milton – The consistent senior scored 12 points, grabbed 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and had 1 block in the second round win over East Forsyth.
Kaylee Carson – The promising freshman scored 11 points while shooting 83% from the floor. She added 10 rebounds for a double-double, along with 3 assists for a solid performance in the first round contest with Northwest Guilford.
Men’s Lacrosse:
Bailey Withers – The Charlotte Observer athlete of the week had an outstanding performance recently. The senior attacker/midfielder had 7 goals and 1 assist to lead the Patriots win over Mooresville, in the season opener.
Football:
Arnold Taylor – The Patriot QB returned to action after undergoing knee surgery last season. In a cold rain-soaked defensive football game he completed one touchdown pass of 9 yards to Terence Hicks and totaled 55 passing yards. The kid showed his competitiveness when he limped off the field, he came back in the game to nearly lead Indy on a winning drive to only fall short in their away opener 7-6 to Hickory Ridge.
Queens Grant Stallions
Soccer:
Anthony Armas – The upcoming Stallions midfielder scored 8 goals, had 5 assists, for a total of 21 points in the shortened soccer season.
Girl’s Basketball:
McKayla Green – The senior finished her final season leading the Lady Stallions in scoring with 126 points in 10 games. She averaged 12.6 per game, grabbed 25 rebounds, and played solid defense throughout.

Basketball:
Calik “Duke” Thomas – The steady senior provided leadership and tenacity for the Ravens. He was runner-up last week in our Featured Player of the Week column, and in his final season averaged over 12 points per game, grabbed 9 rebounds along with multiple blocks and deflections throughout the season.
