Baseball:Â
Carson Gesing – The starting pitcher on the mound for the season opener hurled 5 full innings, allowed 3 runs, only 3 hits, and had 6 strikeouts. He pitched out of trouble in the 3rd inning, by striking out a batter with the bases loaded and no outs, then was able to get the next two batters on flyball outs. He tossed 104 pitches and left the game with a 9-3 lead to get the Patriots first win of the season. Indy won the game 10-6.
Brandon Moser – Slammed a 2-RBI home run in the first inning against Hickory Ridge. He has an.444 OBP, .667 SLG%, and an OPS 1.111 in two games played this season.
Wilson Lohrer – Has a team leading.600 BA, OBP .778, 1.000 SLG%, and an OPS 1.778 during the first week of the season. He went 2-2, with 3 runs scored, and 3 base on balls against Hickory Ridge.
Girls Softball:Â
Maya Douglas – The senior shortstop blasted her 8th home run and had 3 RBI’s against the Mustangs from Myers Park. She added a double and a single going 3-4 in the contest along with some excellent defensive play on the field. Douglas also had a walk-off base hit against South Mecklenburg.
Kimberly Mulkey – Hit a walk-off base hit with two outs for the Patriots to defeat Myers Park on Thursday to caption a comeback conference victory.
Elizabeth “Lulu” Garbark – The sophomore had a key single to tie the Sabres in the sixth inning to set-up the comeback win for the Lady Patriots.
Queen’s Grant StallionsÂ
Baseball:Â
Cameron King – The senior team captain on his first at bat slammed a triple to lead off the game for the Stallions. He added an RBI, a walk, and a steal in the contest against Apprentice Academy.
Cody Marsh – The senior catcher went 2-2 with a double. He had several blocks behind the plate defensively.
Jhenrix Flores – The sophomore went 1-1 with an RBI double, played flawlessly on the field and was named the “Player of the Game” by the coaching staff.
Girls Softball:
Anne Estelle Strawn – The senior went 3 for 3 with a triple, 2 doubles, and 4 RBI’s in a recent game improving the Stallions record to 8-4. She is hitting at .529 clip, with 11 extra base hits, 9 doubles, 1 triple and a home run, while driving in 21 runs on the season.
Abi Sawyers – The freshman went 3-3 with 2 RBI’s, a double, 2 steals making a significant contribution. She is leading the team after 12 games played with a.618 BA, has 7 extra base hits including 2 home runs with 21 RBI’s. She also pitched 7 full innings to beat Pine Lake Prep 10-2, she allowed just 5 hits, 2 walks, while striking out 6 sending the Lady Stallions to their first ever state playoff berth. Sawyers also went 4-4 offensively in the game.
