Pet owners often think they don’t need to worry about flea, tick and heartworm prevention during the winter but our recent weather has been a perfect example of why parasite preventatives are important all year round. Insects like fleas can easily survive cold snaps in mulch and leaf litter, and heartworm-carrying mosquitos can start to emerge when temperatures are in the low 50’s.
