Lilies are popular in the spring because of their association with Easter, but these plants are extremely toxic to cats. Even just licking the pollen from their fur can cause potentially fatal kidney failure. Peace lilies are actually not true lilies, so they are not deadly to cats although eating their leaves can cause vomiting and drooling.
There are many plants sold as houseplants that can be toxic to dogs and cats. A good resource to see if a particular plant could be harmful is the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control website. This page can be searched by common name or scientific name. It also includes a picture of each plant. There is also a listing of nontoxic plants.
