The warm weather we have enjoyed has meant an early start to allergy season for us and our pets. While people tend to have respiratory and sinus problems in response to environmental allergens such as pollen and mold, dogs and cats most commonly have itchy skin. Skin and ear infections also frequently occur secondary to allergies. There are multiple treatment options available, including a new injection that can reduce itching for a month or more. However, allergies can be challenging because not every patient will respond to the same treatment so it may take time to find the option that works best for each individual.
