Prep Your Nest For Winter

MINT HILL, NC – The winter is coming and you need to be prepared. It will get colder and your home should be fully prepared to ensure things are in good working order. Let’s look at a few ways you can prep your nest for the winter season.

HVAC Inspection

Your HVAC system has been used to cool your home all summer long. Now, it’s time to switch over to heat and it’s a good idea to have it professionally inspected. The last thing you want is a cold day to show up and the heat doesn’t work correctly.

Drain Your Water Heater

Another annoying thing in the colder months is a shower with no hot water. It’s a good idea to prepare your water heater by draining the tank so sediment won’t build up. You can do this yourself with a guide from Lowes Home Improvement Store or hire a professional.

Check the Weather Stripping

If you don’t live in a new home, it’s a good idea to check the weather stripping around doors, windows, and vents. This is a sneaky place for cold air to get in and cause your energy bills to go up quickly.

If you notice areas where the air is leaking through, you can use caulking or new weather stripping to create a better seal. Of course, you can also hire a professional to fix the issue.

Clean the Back of Your Fridge

It’s often forgotten about, but the back of your fridge can become rather dusty. You can use a vacuum attachment to clean the dust and debris away to make the condenser coils work properly again.

Check Your Pipes

The cold temperatures could cause frozen pipes, which could burst and cause a much bigger issue. Check to ensure any exposed pipes are properly insulated with tubular pipe sleeves, fiberglass batts, or spiral insulation wrap.

There are several things you can do to prep your nest for the winter. The items on this list will give you a good start to getting your Mint Hill home prepared for the upcoming winter. If you need any recommendations for local contractors – let me know!
