There are several ways to look at any real estate market and how it ranks. Charlotte, NC was named as the third best real estate market in America earlier this year when a report from PwC and the Urban Land Institute was released.
Every report, of this nature, has similarities and differences. This specific report looked at the growing populating, booming economy and the new construction projects throughout Charlotte. With a new film studio, Hard Rock Casino and the many condo developments throughout Uptown and the Southend neighborhoods, it’s pretty easy to see why Charlotte ranked so high on the list. Only Dallas, TX and Austin, TX were ranked higher.
This is an annual report, which had Charlotte in the #7 spot last year. Moving up four spots in one year is a pretty nice jump and shows that the Charlotte real estate market has made its’ way back.
Top Place to Live & Retire
Along with this report, US News rates cities in many different ways. They user a number of different ranking factors including desirability, job market, quality of life, value and net migration. Charlotte made it into the top 25 on two different lists from US News.
On the list of the 100 Best Places to Live in the Unites States, Charlotte came in #14. It was given a 7.1 overall score, which is rather high considering the top city on the list, Austin, TX, scored a 7.8. For quality of live, Charlotte received a 6.5 and for value it scored a 7.4.
The other list, 100 Best Places to Retire in the USA, you’ll find Charlotte in the #22 spot. Sarasota, FL was in the top spot with an overall score of 7.6, while Charlotte scored a 6.8. For this list, the city was given a 7.1 score for housing affordability and a 5.9 for healthcare.
Ranking Well for Business, Careers & Job Growth
While looking at studies and lists specifically for real estate is important in determining where Charlotte ranks, it’s also important to look at lists for education and the economy. Forbes rated Charlotte at #7 on the list of Best Places for Business and Careers. In addition, the city ranked #21 for Job Growth by Forbes . Usually, when cities rank well for careers and businesses it has a positive impact on the real estate market.
Looking at the many studies available and the overall picture, Charlotte is found near the top when compared to other cities of similar size in the United States. The real estate market is strong, the economy is in a good position and the quality of life is rather high for the city.
