What Is New on the Horizon (Ocean that is)? Part 3

CHARLOTTE – Next is Carnival. The Fun leader just brought the new Carnival Mardi Gras to theUS, sailing from Port Canaveral, Fl. I cannot imagine what else Carnival could do to build “Fun” into a ship. The Mardi Gras has a record-breaking roller coaster at sea, along with the longest water slides at sea. What makes the roller coaster unique is it is a motorcycle-type coaster where you sit in the cycle with another person. Another unique feature is the Mardi Gras is powered by Liquid Natural Gas – first for the Ocean Cruise Industry. It will be doing seven-night cruises, as it stands right now, to the Caribbean.

Celebrity is the sister cruise line to Royal Caribbean. The new Edge was introduced during Covid, so her first sailings are now just getting underway. An innovative walkway called the “Magic Carpet” is a moving lounge that moves 13 stories above the sea. Eden is a new area that has live foliage as its décor, reaching to the vaulted ceiling and beyond.

Royal Caribbean, not to be outdone by anyone, is introducing a new class of ships called “Quantum Ultra Class”. Odyssey of the Seas is the first of the ships to sail from USA this summer. Bigger, Better, Bolder seems to be the word choice for this new class. The top deck is amazing with, “Flow Rider” surfing, Zip Linescovering multiple stories, a “Flying venue” where you open your wings and sail on currents of forced air, bumper cars at sea, slides, waterpark, and the hits go on. A complete family resort at sea, this class of ships will offer so much family entertainment. Most folks will consider the itinerary as secondary.
