Iceland 2019 Part 1

This next series takes us to Iceland. 10 years ago this was an unusual destination. Today it is becoming one of the hottest destinations in the world. Perhaps Global Warming, or maybe increased airlift, or even instant “Media Frenzy”, have made this a new go to destination for thousands. During temperate seasons, the landscape is magnificent. The Northern Lights are spectacular, and the outdoor adventures are memorable. There is lots of airlift and multiple tour operators, so pricing has come down. All tours for 2019 are being offered at discounted pricing right now. The big item is scheduling your airlift so you can take advantage of several factors. Early pricing is becoming the norm for airlines today. There are very few, if any, last minute deals anywhere. Airlines have computer systems to tell them how many passengers will probably book a flight on any given day in the future. Using these computer models the airlines have developed flight schedules that maximize the capacity of the planes operating each route. Another consideration is whether to book a single Iceland  destination, or combine Iceland with another Europe destination like London or Dublin or Norway. So, where and what in the world is Iceland?

Iceland, is one of the Nordic Nations, has some of the most breathtaking landscape with volcanoes, geysers, hot springs and lava fields. Massive glaciers are protected in Vatnajökull and Snæfellsjökull national parks. Most of the population lives in the capital, Reykjavik, which runs on geothermal power and is home to the National and Saga museums, tracing Iceland’s Viking history. The island itself is located in the Northern hemisphere, due west of Oslo Norway, and about midway between Norway and Greenland. Many Airlines use a flight pattern from the New England States to northern Europe, that passes directly over Iceland. I am sure many of us have flown over Iceland at 36,000 feet or so, and never knew we had done that.

Check back next week for Part 2 of Iceland 2019.
