MINT HILL, NC – Perhaps I had an advantage. I already knew what the Kumon program offered. My previous experience as a Kumon assistant armed my husband and me with the information and insight that we needed to make the best decision for our child. I knew firsthand what an impact the program could have on a child. We understood that academic practice outside of the classroom would benefit our son greatly. Having him enrolled in a math and reading program at age 4 had yielded so many benefits for our family. Now, at almost 13, we know that much of his success has to do with the consistent everyday exposure to Kumon. All three of our children are Kumon students. Kumon helped us to establish an atmosphere of achievement in our home and when our daughters were born, it was easy for them to follow in the footsteps of their big brother. The concept is simple but effective. In Kumon, students practice for 30 minutes per subject (math, reading, or both). The assignments given are based on ability (not age). What this does for the student is that it allows him to grow academically at his own pace, and eventually beyond his grade level. This means that the student has a place to learn how to learn and eventually become an independent learner. The structure, the curriculum that has been developed over 60 years, and the daily practice are what make the Kumon program unique.
