MINT HILL, NC – It was almost as if the decision was made for me. I knew that my time in the public school system as an educator was limited. I understood that I needed a way to help students outside of the classroom. Being a former public school teacher, I have the utmost respect for them. Yet, I understood that I would make more of an impact by providing supplemental assistance to those who needed it. I had dreamed for years of having a Kumon center of my own, now it was time to make my dream a reality. One thing that has remained constant in my career choices is that I have to feel that I am making a difference. I knew that if I were going to be an entrepreneur, it would have to be a business that I believed in. It would have to be something that I wouldn’t mind spending countless hours doing. In addition, I would need to feel like I was making a positive impact in the community. I had been researching and contemplating having a center of my own, off and on, for about a decade. I almost let my dream slip by me. I ran into an old college friend about 5 years after we’d graduated. “Ayana, have you opened your learning center, yet?”, she asked. It was that question that truly ignited the fire in me to move forward with having a center of my own.
