MINT HILL, NC – Many children were thrust into virtual learning for the very first time this school year. The same is true for parents and educators. At this time in the school year, some families may be struggling to maintain a schedule and keep a standard of consistency with their children. Keeping a structured and consistent school schedule can be challenging for parents and children, but it is necessary in order to ensure that our children are getting the most out of their academic experience. It is important to remind our children that virtual school is a school. Children should prepare for the school day in the same manner that they did pre-COVID. Our students should get out of the bed, groom themselves, get dressed, eat breakfast, secure school supplies, and be seated at the PC ready for a class a few minutes before class begins. Getting ready for school puts our children in the mindset of getting ready to learn. Have your child follow the school schedule. Take bathroom breaks when needed, eat lunch at the scheduled time, just as he or she would at school. Students who are still learning the virtue of self-control should be monitored to ensure that there aren’t any distractions impeding their progress throughout the school day. Allow time for children to get some fresh air outside to take a walk or to play. The more that we can provide consistency and accountability for our children, the easier it will be for our teachers to instruct them. Our children thrive on support and structure.
