Open The Lines Of Communication

MINT HILL, NC – It’s important now more than ever to keep the lines of communication open with our children. Many of our children are dealing with anxiety and stress due to the life changes that we all have encountered beginning in March 2020. We as parents and adults have stress and anxiety to manage as well. We are managing our own stress as well as helping our children to navigate through this emotionally trying time. We can create opportunities for our children to unwind, relax and express themselves. Schedule meals together as often as possible. At least one meal a day together will provide an opportunity for organic conversation. Eating together (especially without the use of technology during meals) is a great way to check in with each other. Getting fresh air and exercise together is another way to connect with your children. Take a break together, go for a walk or play an outdoor game with them. Your child will thrive emotionally because you have carved out time to spend with them. Direct your children to other trusted adults that they can talk to. It could be a family member, friend of the family or a school counselor. Make sure that it is someone that you trust. When your child knows that he or she will get your undivided attention each day, it will help to alleviate feelings of anxiety or stress.
