MINT HILL, NC – Parents are their child’s first teacher. It is through you that your child learns how to relate to the world around them. As soon as our children are born, they are learning, processing and applying what they have learned. As our children grow and develop, we begin to think about how to educate them. Many parents begin to become concerned when it’s time to prepare their children for formal education. They wonder if they have prepared their child enough at home to be able to get off to a good start in school. As the child continues to grow and gain knowledge, we as parents are along the educational path with our children. Many of us wonder if we are providing the adequate amount of support that they need to be successful in the classroom. Your involvement in your child’s education has a direct impact on his or her achievement. You can demonstrate involvement and support by encouraging learning at home. Sometimes we can send mixed signals to our children about learning. We should be careful not to project our childhood fears and anxieties on to our children. Communicate high but reasonable expectations to your child. Let them know that you require their very best effort. Lastly, reach out to your child’s teacher. They need to know that we are willing participants in our child’s education. Take out the time to send an email, text or make a phone call. Teachers can give us invaluable information that will help us to cultivate an enriching learning environment at home.
