Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff

MINT HILL, NC – The 2020-2021 school year is already into its second-quarter for most school-aged children. Undoubtedly, parents, teachers, students, and administrators have journeyed through a myriad of unexpected experiences.  What are some things that we can do to continue to walk this unprecedented path while maintaining some semblance of normalcy?

Keep a routine. Our children thrive on routine. What time does his day start each morning? What is his after school routine?  Does your child have time to wind down a bit after school before tackling homework assignments? What time is bedtime? Creating a structure for our children provides them with a measure of needed predictability.

Give yourself grace and extend grace to others. We are all doing the best we can where we are with what we have. Give yourself grace. We are navigating uncharted waters in education and in life. We should make a conscious effort not to put ourselves under unnecessary pressure. We only manage the things that we can control.

Maintain your standards. Let your children know that there is still a standard in the household. We will strive to do our best each day. We will continue to be kind to others and we will find something to be grateful for every day.

Don’t sweat the small stuff. Our mental, physical, and emotional well being is what is most important. We should take care of ourselves and each other. Be kind, think of others, be patient, and most importantly, don’t sweat the small stuff.
