What’s In an Estimate?

Quality estimates give clients exact details of their home and tile project, including how the contractor will execute the project, what materials will be used, how long it will take and what the cost will be. Detailed estimates help reduce surprises for clients and contractors, so make sure you are provided all the details of your project.

WAXHAW, NC – When you need work done in your home, you probably look online for recommendations, ask your friends, scour sites and newspapers, and then call or email a local contractor (like me!). This leads to the next important step: getting an estimate.

When contractors come to see your project, they take many things in mind. What room will the work be done in, what equipment will be needed, how big is the area, what does the client desire…the list is long! Contractors consider all of this to quote your project.

Pay close attention to what’s in the entire estimate, not just the cost! While the cost is a factor, you get what you pay for! If you receive an estimate with limited details and only a fee, it’s probable the person wasn’t paying attention to the details. If the cost seems too good to be true, it probably is!

Make sure your estimate has the exact nature of the work you asked the contractor to quote, with details that tell you what they’re going to do, how they’re going to do it, how long the project may take, and the cost. Does the quote include labor and all materials, or are you responsible for some materials? Ensure you know what you’re paying for so there are no surprises. Ask questions! I expect clients to reach out after they review our estimate, so they can have all answers before we kick off their project!
