Annaliese Shelley, Independence Patriots
For the second consecutive week, Annaliese Shelley has been selected the Mint Hill Times, Featured Player of the Week.
The senior soccer star at Independence reached a milestone. She is the first soccer athlete in the schools long history to score 100 goals or more in their career. Shelley actually scored her 100 and 101st goals against the Wildcats. The 101st goal came on a penalty kick to secure another conference victory for the Patriots.
Shelley now has 31 goals on the season with more games to be played after the spring break. The talented athlete is having an outstanding senior campaign, and continues to lead the team offensively improving the Patriots overall record to 9-5, and 5-3 in the Southwestern 4A Conference.
Coach Tyler Gibson, who also is the head coach of the men’s soccer team is excited and very pleased with her performance. “Annaliese, has been a hard worker, she is dedicated, has made the commitment to our program, and the team to compete at a high level, while getting tremendous results,” said coach Gibson.
She has surpassed any other soccer player in goal scoring by a large margin. For example, soccer standout senior Cvan Than had 65 goals in his four year career at Independence. The men’s scoring leader had a career high 65 points and 31 goals during his junior season. Shelley already has accumulated 68 points and has 31 goals to her credit with another month of soccer to be played.
Again, congratulations to Annaliese Shelley for becoming the Independence all-time career goal scoring record holder for soccer in school history.  Also, for achieving and exceeding the 100 goal milestone.
