Calik “Duke” Thomas, Rocky River Ravens

We don’t normally recognize a player two straight consecutive weeks. However, due to his two outstanding performances on Tuesday night when the player scored 25 points against rival Independence and followed up with 23 points on Friday night, it cannot be ignored as the best performance of the week by any local area athlete.

The “Duke” as he is known to teammates in a tough loss on Tuesday to the Patriots single handily kept the Ravens within striking distance especially in the second half of the contest. He not only scored a game-high 25 points, he grabbed 9 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 deflection and shot 62% from the floor along with going 3-3 from the free-throw line.

On Friday night in another conference match-up, he scored 23 points, hauled down 9 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 assists and 3 steals in the Ravens blowout win. By scoring a combined 48 points, grabbing 18 rebounds and accumulating 7 blocks certainly solidifies his selection.

For the season, Thomas is now averaging 16.2 points per game, scored 211 points in 13 games, shooting 60% from the floor, averaging 7.0 rebounds per game while accumulating 91 rebounds along with 20 blocks and 15 deflections.

The junior is a hard-nosed defender, highly competitive and is improving his game every week for the Ravens.

This week’s runner-up honors goes to Omarion Bodrick from Independence for his performance on Friday night against Myers Park scoring 20 points, grabbing 11 rebounds for the double-double along with 3 blocks and 3 deflections.

The Sports Editor and sportswriters at the Mint Hill Times want to congratulate Calik Thomas for his nomination including Omarion Bodrick for their outstanding performances.
