Independence Patriots, Anthony AllenÂ
Mr. Consistency for the Patriots in the teams first five games is what we will label Anthony Allen, a reliable senior guard for Independence. We have watched him mature since he began his career as a bench player during his sophomore season.
In his last three games he is averaging 17.3 points per game. On the season in five games 15.6 points per game. He sets the tempo and pushes the basketball down the court with precision and quickness. Allen is certainly taking on the role of senior leadership on this year’s current version of the Patriots. He has played in big games including making a contribution on a State Championship team in his sophomore season.
Allen is hitting his shots at a 56% rate, 70% from the free throw line, and 42% from the 3-point range to date. He is only 11/26 in 3-pointers, has been a good shooter from this range throughout his career and fully expect him to improve as we get into the heavy schedule of the season.
He has scored 78 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, 9 assists, 8 steals, and has 1 block accumulated in the Patriots first five games during the front end of a long campaign going into February and possibly into March.
The sports editor and writers at the Mint Hill Times want to congratulate Anthony Allen for his selection as this weeks “Featured Player of the Week.”
