Independence Patriots Quarterback, Arnold Taylor
This was a very challenging week to make a decision on which area player to feature based on the performance of the local teams. However, we have come to a consensus, to showcase the overall performance of junior quarterback Arnold Taylor over the past five games.
The transfer has stepped into the position as an unknown, and has put up some solid numbers and deserves to receive recognition for his on the field performance and leadership.
In the Patriots unexpected blowout loss to Hickory Ridge Taylor completed 18 of 38 passes for 284 yards including a 62 yard touchdown to wide receiver Trevor Bryan. He entered the Friday night match-up with solid statistics in the previous four football games. He had 40 completions on 84 attempts, a total of 712 passing yards, with a 66 yard pass completion being his longest on the season. Taylor had a quarterback ranking of 90.0 entering Friday night’s game, along with 97 additional rushing yards. He is elusive when he drops back to pass, and his mobility is an asset along with passing accuracy while in motion. This gives the Patriots offense a new dimension for their opponents to prepare to defend.
Taylor, after five games has now accumulated 996 yards of passing offense for the Patriots. He has tossed 9 touchdowns, and is averaging 199.2 yards per game through the air. He has gone over 100 yards in rushing and has a combined total of over 1100 yards of offense to date.
The sports editor and sports writers at the Mint Hill Times congratulate Arnold Taylor for being selected this weeks “Featured Player of the Week.”
